The old church (listed site)

The ruins of that old church rise between the cape and the dunes in an entirely deserted area. Its patron is Saint-Germain-le-Scot, who evangelized the Cotentin in the 5th century.

 

 

 

 

Saint-Louis church

Only the choir and the steeple remain in that old church surrounded by the old cemetery. The old tombs on which you can hardly read the names are Carteret's memory. The church was originally a chapel for the local lord.

Saint-Germain d'Auxerre church in Barneville (listed monument)

This parish church, with Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre as its patron, is one of the most interesting churches in the Cotentin. It is a roman church (about 1140). You will notice outside :

. its north side and west side portals, both roman

. its typical fortified tower (1405-1412)

And inside the church :

. its beautiful arches in the 12th century style.

. its outstanding column capitals beautifully decorated

Saint-Germain-le-Scot church in Carteret

was built after the splitting of "Church and State" and consecrated on the 6th September 1908.
